about

One hot and balmy day back in late-June 2013 the stars aligned over Calgary, Alberta and Dr. Daniel X. Belasco of Defence Mechanism and Brian Graupner of The Gothsicles met at Terminus Festival.
Many laughs and good times were had.
Among the wanton happiness Brian and Daniel decided to do a song together.
Fast-forward to a month ago and they finally got around to it, and it's about aliens.

Brian's love for Lovecraftian lore lead him to write lyrics based on "The Whisperer in the Darkness", and Daniel's penchant for watching horror movies and sampling the shit out of them lead him to write a song called "Brainscan".
Put 2 and 2 together and you get one hell of a 4.

"Brainscan" is that 4

lyrics

Scan my brain!

(verse 1)
Unseen aliens are invading our turf
They fly from Pluto to strip mine the Earth
They resemble crabs but cannot be photographed
In secret rituals, they practice their Witchcraft
Taken into space
By the whispers from the dark
But if my body's too fraill
How do I embark?!?

(chorus)
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate the self with superior surgery
Scan my brain!
Before you murder me
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate myself with superior surgery
Experience the cosmos albeit externally

(verse 2)
I’m getting hunted ‘cause I’m hot on their trail
They dispatch their agents to hijack my mail
They attack my house at night ‘cause I’ve seen their tracks
They’re trying to reclaim all their alien artifacts
I don’t wanna live life from an inside a machine
But my cerebral cortex has turned into a subroutine

(chorus)
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate the self with superior surgery
Scan my brain!
Before you murder me
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate myself with superior surgery
Experience the cosmos albeit externally

(verse 3)
They came from beyond to put my mind in a can!
10 print, let me out
20 go to 10
They came from the void to put my mind in a can!
10 print, let me out
20 go to 10
They came from beyond to put my mind in a can!
10 print, let me out
20 go to 10
They came from the void to put my mind in a can!
10 print, kill me now
20 go to 10 again

(chorus)
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate the self with superior surgery
Scan my brain!
Before you murder me
Scan my brain for cylindrical storage
Feel no pain on the celestial voyage
Separate myself with superior surgery
Experience the cosmos albeit externally

about

DefenceMechanism Toronto, Ontario

Defence Mechanism started by Daniel X. Belasco in late 2003.
Shortly thereafter Paul K. joined as the second longest standing member.
Originally started with the intent of being an Industrial project, Defence Mechanism quickly grew to be something else entirely.
Adopting a kitschy sci-fi imagery and focusing on writing solid material instead of "club hits".
